Mobile To Connect Refugees To Vital Services
GSMA, UNHCR, MTN and Ericsson to bring mobile services to refugee camps

[Question]
This is Leo Sorge, an italian journalist specialised in technology. I
care about Africa in general and in the last months I tried to let
italians know about the situation in Darfur
(http://itablogs4darfur.blogspot.com holds also some international
contribution in english).
As a subscriber to GSMA newsletter I also received the press release
about GSMA help to refugees. I am very happy of this, but let me ask:
why Darfur is not included in the list? I would like to know if there is
any answers, to give the news in a complete form on our blog.
Please let me know.
Thanking you in advance, I remain

[Answer]
Hi Leo,
Thank you for your email.
The refugee camps being targeted for the pilot are in Northern Uganda
and contain refugees from Darfur. The pilot is designed to test the
concept. Assuming it is sustainable, the programme will be expanded to
refugee camps in other countries.
Hope this helps and please don't hesitate to get in contact if you
require further information.
